What Are The Characteristics Of Beer Brewing Equipment In Different Countries

Beer is a drink that is popular just about everywhere in the world.

A favorite beverage among many people, beer is probably one of the most common drinks consumed worldwide.

When it comes to its actual preparation, there can be many different variations.

From the equipment used to the recipes applied, there is a wide variation in the kind of differences that one can find, when it comes to the preparation of beer.

And when it comes to differences, they tend to be rather stark when it comes to the variations between two or more different countries, especially when it comes to the case of beer manufacturing equipment.

Some of the most common differences that can exist are listed out in the points below:

  1. The Source of the Equipment

This is by far one of the biggest differences that can be noticed about the beer equipment, which is regarding its country of origin.

Not all countries produce the necessary equipment for the manufacture of beer. On the contrary, the production of the same varies between countries, due to the fact that some consume beer far more than others.

The end result of this is that many of the beer making equipment is often imported in some countries, while others use machines that are locally made.

  1. Installed Capacity of the Machines

Another major difference about the equipment would be regarding the installed capacity.

The term ‘installed capacity’ refers to the total production potential that exists in any given manufacturing plant, in a given unit of time.

In countries where beer demand is large, one finds equipment capable of satisfying this large demand. And the same holds true in those countries where there is demand for the beverage on a smaller scale, characterized by total brewing capacity being a lot less.

  1. Add-On Equipment

This is one of the most important differences around, when it comes to the variations between beers making equipment in different countries.

The term ‘add-on equipment’ here refers to any extra equipment that may be installed in addition to the main or base equipment used for beer making.

The main reason this is done is to allow for any additional variations in the recipes to be accommodated, when preparing the beer. Depending on the kind of ingredients and preparation methods used in the beer recipe, the kind of add-on equipment will vary as well.

Also to note is that this is something that applies to parts by both original manufacturer, as well as those made by third party vendors.

  1. Cost of the Beer-Making Equipment

This is one of the more subtle differences that exist, which at the same time, are very important from a financial standpoint. In a way, it is related to many of the other points that are mentioned here.

The cost of the equipment will vary based on the location of production, cost of labor, import duties, foreign exchange rates and so on. All of these things will add up in the end, giving the final cost that the manufacturer will have to pay, in order to acquire the equipment.

  1. Nature of the Service

The term ‘nature’ here is a reference to whether the servicing of the equipment exists within the country or outside it.

One can see this difference in when comparing developed countries with developing ones, or those countries that have a steady beer demand with those that don’t.

In general, beer companies will set up their servicing centers in countries where there is an active market for their products. In the case of those places where there is no such demand, the companies usually set up the care centers in countries offshore.

The reason for this is a fairly simple one, and it has to do with finance. It is a lot more affordable to have services in a country when there is an active market for the same. Likewise, it is very difficult to feasibly set up the same in those countries that don’t have a large scale demand for its product.

  1. Quality of the Service

This is once again related to the previous point.

In countries where there is an active demand for a certain product or service, it’s usually possible to expect a high degree of quality.

At the same time however, the same cannot be expected in those countries where there is no such demand for the same.

Also to add here is that the quality is a reference to both the quality of service by the manufacturer, as well as third parties.

  1. Availability of Spare Parts and Add-Ons

This is in a way related to another point that was made earlier.

That there will be a demand for spare parts and add-ons is a given. At the same time however, it is not something that one can expect to be the same everywhere.

This is because market demand, import and export laws, local requirements and other factors influence the kind of products that are available.

The end result of this is that it makes the availability of spare parts and add-ons for the beer making equipment vary vastly, from one country to another.

  1. Availability of Offers

This has nothing to do with the equipment itself, but rather the marketing and financial aspect of the business.

In places where there is a high demand for beer, one can expect to see a plenty of offers and other attractive buying options for beer making equipment. Given that there is a high degree of demand, it is only given that the manufacturer wants to stand out from the competition.

It is something that cannot be expected in places where there is no major demand for beer, as the market simply doesn’t exist, or is so small that it doesn’t mean much for a company to take seriously.

Last but not the least, the above mentioned list of differences are but some of the major ones that can be found, when it comes to beer preparation equipment.

There are indeed many more such differences that can exist between them, with the above being some of the most important ones around.

The YoLong 200L Skid Uni Tank Exhibition

What is a Skid Tank, you may be asking yourself? A skid tank is an above-the-ground tank that has been mounted on a small platform that was purpose-built in the factory. It is often impossible to mount uni-tanks on permanent supports above ground or install tanks underground. The YoLong team gave this problem a lot of thought, and came up with the ultimate solution: Skid Uni-Tanks.

You can have your skid tank mounted on a platform constructed from strong steel structural shapes, for example, beams or angled iron. This allows the platform to prevent the uni-tank from resting directly on the factory floor, but the biggest benefit of a skid tank installation is that it’s prevented from rolling over.

The platform of a skid tank also allows it to be repositioned from one site location to another. Dispensing pumps can also be mounted on the skid tank to create a self-contained storage and dispensing system. If you want your industry production to be flexible, you should come to the Craft Beverage Expo and learn more about the YoLong exhibition: the 200L Skid Uni Tank.

We look forward to seeing you there! Please feel free to contact YoLong Brewtech directly if you have any questions about how we can elevate your beverage production to the next level.

How To Use Commercial Brewing Equipment?

Introduction

Many people who love to brew beer for their friends and family often go for commercial brewing to make their hobby and passion a source of earning and living. Moreover, there is no harm in doing something you are good at, something you love to do, something that is capable of rewarding you, and something that other people like about you. If you are someone who brews excellent beer that everyone loves and who wants to turn it into a business that rewards you for your enthusiasm then having the right set of guidance is very important to succeed in fulfilling the dream of getting a reward from your passion. According to the statistics, a large population of the United States of America is passionate about brewing beer as there are reported to have 1.1 million people in the US who are home brewers and they have produced the beer up to 1.4 million barrels in the year 2017. People who turned their hobbies into the brewing business keep increasing and in the year 2017, there were 6266 breweries in the US which were 15.5% more than the preceding year. Starting commercial brewing can be very expensive and require a lot of equipment which can make it a bit challenging. Let’s now look in detail how one can do commercial brewing:

How to Do Commercial Brewing

There are some basic types of equipment you need to have before doing commercial brewing. This includes kettles, fermentation tanks, boilers, storage tanks, cooling systems, filters, kegs, refrigeration, and canning, bottling, piping, and cleaning tools.

Milling Malt

This is the basic equipment that is required to start the process of brewing. This equipment helps to break down the malt into smaller fragments to extract the sweetness and sugars required for brewing.

Brew House

The second thing that is required to do commercial brewing is to have a brewhouse. This is an enclosed place that has all the necessary components and vessels that are needed to start brewing. This includes a lauter tun, a mash mixer, and a hot tank for liquor, a holding kettle, a whirlpool, and a kettle for boiling. A two-vessel system often has these components together in one place whereas in a five-vessel system all these components are separated and away from each other. In the first step, wort is created. This is done by mashing the malt and other grains. Once this is done it is moved to the kettle where the boiling is done with hops, flavors, colors, aroma, and other important ingredients. Once the boiling is done the wort is allowed to settle down in the whirlpool where all the solid particles are gathered and then they are separated from the mixture. The price of the brewing house may vary depending on the capacity however, the price range for a brewhouse is somewhere between$50,000-98,500.

Plate Heat Exchanger

This is the third most important equipment and step for brewing. Once the wort is completely separated from the hops it is allowed to pass through a plate heat exchanger where the temperature of the heat is allowed to get lower this is because if the wort is extremely hot it can easily kill all the yeast as it enters the fermenter.

Fermentation Tanks

The fourth very essential equipment is the fermentation tanks. This is the second step in brewing beer and these steel tanks are the second most important item on your purchase list. In this step, yeast is used to produce alcohol when it is allowed to react with the wort. Cone-shaped tanks are better for fermentation as the yeast can easily be removed, captured and reused later. The right kind of fermentation tanks will help ensure that all the variables and necessary conditions are fulfilled to give a perfectly tasting brewed beer.

Brite Tanks

Once the fermentation is done, the beer is filtered out and transferred to a Brite tank. This tanks looks exactly like the fermentation tank and here the beer is kept for a while and allowed to get more carbonated before it can be canned and bottled. Sometimes beer can also be served directly from these Brite tanks but it is always better to keep them in these tanks for a while before serving them out. Brite tanks and fermentation tanks may look alike but they do not have the same function as brite tanks are only use for carbonating the beer to enhance the flavor and taste.

Kegs

If you buy kegs you also need to buy keg washers with them to clean them. Even if you decide not to bottle your wine kegs are still an essential component to have when selling your end product to the customers. Kegs can be useful for serving beer in your brewpub, at a bar or a restaurant. An automatic keg washer can help you to easily and effectively clean and wash off your kegs speeding up the processing while reducing the labor costs at the same time. The price of kegs and keg washers may vary depending on the company that sells them.  The Beverage factory usually sells 15.5- gallon kegs for $125. Keg washers can easily come under a price range of $10,000-14,000.

Conclusion

The above-mentioned information brings us to the conclusion that if one has a brewing passion then one must take it to another level by doing commercial brewing as it will be both fun and rewarding at the same time. Moreover, commercial brewing is not as difficult and challenging as it seems to be if you have the right set of directions and instructions and if you follow them properly. The expenditure on the equipment may seem to be very high as there are different and various types of equipment involved in the brewing process but once your business gets successful you can easily get back all your initial investment made in the equipment in no time and can, in fact, get more returns in the form of profits.

This process doesn’t change, whether it’s roasted and ground coffee or barley grain, you will be able to control and engineer the greatest brew.

How to Take Your Business into Commercial or Craft Cold Brew Coffee Production

The coffee bean is actually a seed from the coffee plant, similar to a cherry. It has over one thousand chemical compounds inside the “pit,” and each compound reacts differently depending on the temperature to which it is exposed.

The fine art of roasting utilizes something called the Maillard reaction. This when starch and sugars are converted into more complex flavor compounds. Each new compound has its own distinct aroma and flavor profile.

These factors influence the final cold brew coffee aroma and flavor:

  • Origin of beans
  • Mix of bean type
  • Temperature and roasting time
  • Grind-size
  • Water source
  • Temperature of water

Latest news about beer brewing equipment

Brew brewing has been evolving and getting better with all the passing days. There is new beer brewing equipment for crafting beer and the beer market is a major competition. The beer brewing is an art that most people enjoy. However, there is a major scope of home brewing. There are multiple types of equipment that are introduced in the last few years to make the beer brewing process more smooth and the beer better.

The future of beer brewing

According to the forecast, the beer brewing market will witness a major gain. The beer brewing equipment has been at a peak of production and the equipment market will give other industries a major knockoff. Many companies are entering India and Brazil for their popularity in the beer crafting and the beer brewing equipment. Portfolio expansion is the basic strategy of the equipment production industry. This is what gives these companies a major hike in the international market. People are thinking to invest in the beer brewing equipment and further beer crafting for more profitable income.

Macro competitors

There is heavy competition between the beer brewing industries and the macro competitors. These are compelling them to have a beer production line and the beer crafting equipment for better representation in the international market. The new equipment for the production of beer, such as the temperature control system is a big advancement.

Process of fermentation

Beer is crafted through fermentation and for the fermentation, there has to be a temperature that is warm and moist. Without the temperature control system, beer brewing may take a lot of time and may go bad. However, with the evolution of this equipment, the beer production is more and quality is better. However, with the inclusion of a temperature monitoring system, the beer market has further booted with more production and greater profit.

You must be thinking about how the fermentation and the beer brewing temperature control machine has such a big impact on the market and the production of beer. So, the answer to that is, beer brewing mostly consists of fermentation. There is no way you can craft a beer without fermentation. So, the point is, when 60% of the beer brewing process is based on fermentation, the temperature control is one of the most important needs for the beer brewing.

Temperature monitoring system for fermentation

Also, if the use of the temperature monitoring system increases the production and the market value, the results are justified. So, we can say the forecast for the beer brewing industry to have a major share can be true. New and better technologies are making the beer industry bigger. The main thing that matters for the beer brewing is the taste. Well, the site is developed if the fermentation is done right. So, all you need to do is to think of a strategy and work for it. Most companies are now having a production line for beers.  The new technologies for home brewing have also been introduced for homebrewers.

Part of the government for breweries

The governments are also playing their role to make the industry big. Do you know how? The government of various countries is showing positive regard toward the new brewers and the now companies for beer brewing. Do you know which government is supporting the beer brewing? The government of Mexico, Canada, New Zealand, and many others. The government is putting its step forward for the positive deed. The new market boost will happen with more breweries and even better beer brewing equipment. This is the main reason why these breweries in the above-mentioned countries sum up to a total of 65% employee placement and beer productions.

Production of beer

We already know what makes the beer. The fermentation of the wheat, rice, barley or any other grin makes the beer. So, when beer production increases, the need for grains also increases. The grains demand may cause a problem here. One good thing here is that with the increase in the production of beer, other alcoholic drinks market will decrease. That is a great start. But the issues here are still about the increased demand for grains. This will result in a drawback for the beer brewers. The beer brewers will no longer be in a position to bargain or get a cheaper grain.

Equipment for the production of beer

Some of the major production machinery and the equipment that is used for the production of beer are as under. This beer-producing equipment are vital for the beer brewing. Also, if you want your beer to be of high quality, make sure you use the equipment that is of the latest features with the best quality. Moreover, if you are planning to brew beer, you will need to have grains that are of good quality. Equipment for the following processing of beer is available in the market.

  • Fermentation
  • Brewhouse
  • Filling
  • Milling
  • Packaging equipment

For each one of the components, there is equipment to help you have the best results. All the beer brewing process can go smooth if you look for the appropriate equipment for these features.

Beer brewing equipment and the main market

Most of the beer equipment production is from North America. Also, Mexico makes it an average of about 45% beer brewing business and beer brewing markets. This automatically diverts all the attention towards the beer brewing and the consumption in this region. However, people consider premium beer over the craft beers. Also, their beer brewing market and beer equipment market has been increasing for good.

Multiple companies are great for beer brewing equipment. You can do your research and get the best beer brewing equipment. However, if you are still in search of a trustworthy place that provides you with great quality and amazing prices, you can head on to the YoLong. This is a company that will provide you with the best quality equipment to brew high-quality beers.

How much does commercial brewing equipment cost?

Breweries around the world come in different sizes. Some are big while some are operating on a small level. Their operations, cost, and revenues depend on their size mainly. Let’s say a microbrewery would fit only in one room and all procedures will be handled by only one person. As for a large commercial multinational brewery, they will have many employees working in different departments. Each department in this brewery will be dedicated to one type of operations and the employees working in that particular department will make sure their operations get done for their phase only. Despite the variability in size, the basic biochemical process is the same for beer brewing.

Recently, people from different backgrounds have been establishing large breweries in their towns. These are not as big as the multinational brewing companies, but they certainly have made their cut in nearby bars and pubs. It is an easy task, the people are making profits, so business is good. So, if you are thinking to establish a large brewery in your area then you need to buy commercial brewing equipment because for a large brewery, you need to handle big operations. But how much does commercial brewing equipment cost?

Basic factors that affect brewing equipment cost

3 basic factors affect brewing equipment cost, which includes:

  • What kind of brewery equipment material you use?
  • Do you take brand new brewery equipment or second hand?
  • What is the size of your brewery?

Brewery equipment material:

Let’s talk about the 1st factor which is brewery equipment material. Just like in a kitchen, we have utensils of different materials, like we have glass, china clay, stainless steel, and nonstick utensils for different purposes, the same way, a brewery has kettles made from either copper or stainless-steel material.

  • Copper brewery equipment: Copper brewery equipment has been used in beer brewing for centuries because of its properties. It transfers heat quickly and evenly in the kettle to boil the wort. Traditionally, people started off making beer in copper utensils because it is highly desirable for boiling wort at high temperatures.

But copper tends to react with other chemicals easily and give a metallic taste in beer. Also, different cleaning and sanitization processes can change the color of beer made in copper kettles. Copper is a way cheaper option in comparison to stainless-steel.

  • Stainless-steel brewery equipment: In the modern world where we are all about the end product, all big commercial breweries use stainless-steel brewery equipment in the modern times.. Although the kettles used in there are not completely made of stainless steel, they have copper cladding on each kettle to ensure the traditional appearance, but it doesn’t interfere with the taste unless it’s the bleach.

Stainless-steel material doesn’t actively react with chemicals, but it tends to react with chlorine, so proper sanitization won’t affect the quality of beer made in stainless-steel equipment. Also, stainless-steel is a stronger material than copper, so it doesn’t get pressurized when worts are boiled at high temperatures. Stainless-steel is expensive but it will be a durable choice in a brewery.

New or secondhand brewery equipment:

The cost of commercial brewery equipment also depends on whether you buy the new equipment or secondhand brewery equipment for your startup. The new equipment will be expensive than the secondhand equipment but if it comes in good shape and quality, it won’t affect your brewing at all. Despite the copper and stainless-steel boilers and kettles, major equipment in a brewery includes the following.

  • Fermentation tanks: Fermentation is the next step after your wort is been boiled. Fermentation tanks hold the wort while yeast converts into sugar in the wort along with alcohol and carbon dioxide.  They usually have a cone-shaped bottom. The jacketed fermenter is best in use, A ½ bb non-jacketed cost about $400 and jacketed fermenter of 1 bb can cost you $3,200
  • Kegs: Kegs are important because you need to store beer in a keg before moving it into the bottles or cans. A ½ bbl. The keg is the most common size, it cost you $125 and buying them in a bulk will get you discount. They need to be washed properly so you will need a keg washer which comes under $300.

Other equipments include refrigerators, bottling, filters, and cleaning supplies.

Size of your brewery:

The size of the brewery is a major factor in determining the cost of commercial brewery equipment. If you have a larger operation going on, you will be needing the bigger equipment and bigger brewhouse. A brewhouse features a mash mixer, hot liquor tank, whirlpool, boiling kettle, and lauter tun. Usually, the capacity of the brewhouse is determined in barrels (bbl.) unit. Different companies like https://yolongbrewtech.com manufacture the brewhouse in different barrel capacities depending on the client’s needs. The retail prices of brewhouses are also different from size to size. The smallest brewhouse costs about $50,000.

Cost of commercial brewing startup:

Depending on your brewery size, acquiring a license and buying the good quality commercial brewing equipment, we can roughly estimate that it can go from $100,000 to $1million easily. For a person who is new to this brewing, the thing must go for the microbrewery option. It is slightly smaller, but you will oversee everything in your own space. You can produce less than 15,000 barrels and 75 % of beer will be sold offsite. It will be a commercial venture and you can buy all the commercial equipment for a microbrewery in less than $100,000. The small equipment will take less space in the house. This will save you some major real estate costs and tax amounts. Your license cost will certainly get reduced. The further plumbing, electrical works, and flooring cost will eventually reduce because you are renting a small space. Day to day operation will be easy to handle, you can take a few employees to help you out as well.

Finally, starting your brewery is an expensive and challenging task, you need to be committed and have a plan to manage the hurdles on the way. But good business always flourishes so hope for the best.

The Most Popular Beers Around the World & Why These Countries Love Them! Part 1

What makes a country prefer one beer over another? Is it good branding, mass marketing, and consumers choosing the most easily available option? Or is it something more deeply ingrained into the subconscious of a nation of people?

YoLong celebrate everything about beer and its production. We do this by creating the best equipment to do the perfect job of duplicating a popular beer recipe every time. It is, after all, a beer’s consistency and excellence that raises it to the top of the most beloved beers in a country.

Northern Africa

Algeria – Tango (Heineken)

Heineken acquired Algeria’s best-selling beer, S.A.R.L. Tango, in 2008. It comes in two varieties: Tango Biére blonde and Tango Sans Alcool (alcohol-free). Tango is a pale lager -North American/Light Beer. This describes a beer that is a cross between a Pilsner and a Pale Lager. A pale lager/North Am. light will typically have softer carbonation than the classic Pilsner popular in Europe.

Tango is characterized by its light to medium body, average carbonation, and 4.8% ABV. Described as golden in colour, with aromas of malt and straw, after expert pouring, Tango will have a thin, white head. Drinkers have pronounced the taste as: grain; sweet; malt; papery; thin.

Why is Tango the Most Popular Beer in Algeria?

Although Europeans might find the thin, light flavour of Tango unappetizing on a snowy day, Algerians love the sweet, refreshing golden beer with a thin, white head and restrained carbonation. It is perfect for the Mediterranean climate of North Algeria and the extreme temperatures experienced in the Tell region.

How Would a Commercial Beer Brewer Control the Carbonation Process?

Tango’s signature flat, thin, white head is probably created with a post-filter (to remove the yeast) carbonation process. Every beer needs to keep CO2 gas inside the liquid, and this requires the pressure from a sealed bottle lid or cap. When the cap is removed or the tab is pulled off the can, the pressure is released and the bubbles begin to rise.

Most natural carbonation escapes during the fermentation of the wort. Natural carbonation occurs in the commercial brewery vessels or it can happen in the bottle when the beer is given time to ferment. Unfiltered beer has the active yeast hanging in a suspension in the liquid. When sugar is added to the beer upon bottling, the sugar and yeast will release the CO2, which is then absorbed by the beer.

Southern Africa

South Africa – Carling Black Label Beer (SAB)

As South African Breweries – SAB – proudly announces on their site, they have been producing Carling Black Label for over 40 years. CBL has won many awards all over the world and when it appears in beer tasting expos, it receives a warm reception from those who sample it. It is also known as Zamalek, and the history of how Carling Black Label came to be called that is an interesting one.

How Carling Black Label Came to Be Called Zamalek

Egypt has a football (soccer) club called Zamalek. They visited South Africa in 1993 to play in the African Cup Championship. They played against the legendary South African soccer team called Kaiser Chiefs. The Egyptian Zamalek team beat Kaiser Chiefs in a slamming 1 – 2 victory, and knocked the South African team right out of the championship. This complete knockout and defeat is used to describe the effect drinking a Carling Black Label can have on someone.

The reason for this is, while most beers sold in South Africa have less than 5% ABV, Carling Black Label packs a powerful 5.5% alcohol content punch. This is more than enough increase in ABV to take the average beer drinker out of the competition!

The Taste of Carling Black Label/Zamalek

Carling Black Label is characterized by its full-bodied, smooth, rewarding flavour. It has been described by visitors from other countries as having a distinctive, fruity aroma and low bitterness levels. It is a thin, light beer with a soft, delicate fizz created from the carbonation process. When poured by an expert, a Black Label beer should have a lightly foamy and translucent head of white bubbles, and a sweet, fruity taste with overtones of citrus.

This seems to be the ideal balance of refreshing lightness and drinkability needed from a beer in such a hot climate. CBL has become one of SABs most successful commercially produced beers.

How Do Breweries Stop Beers from Being Too Bitter?

There is a difference between the tang produced by a hoppy beer and the sharp, bitter overtones created by excess tannins. Tannins occur in malted grains as a form of polyphenol (a micronutrient that activates the bitterness receptors in the taste buds). During the mashing process, when the sweet, malted grain is combined with temperature-controlled water, the heated water activates the malt enzymes. This activation triggers the grain’s starch to begin converting into sugar.

Mashing is done in a large container called a mash tun. The mash tun retains the heat while the grain starch is activated for the optimum amount of time. The next process is called the lautering; this is done in the lauter tun. The spent grain and husks are separated from the sweet wort in a lauter tun.

It is during the brewing process in the mash tun and lauter tun where the tannins, extracted from the husks, can be driven higher. This is caused by several factors.

Excessive tannin will be extracted from beer if the pH balance has been allowed to go too high (6.0 and above). This can happen because grains are steeped in an extracted brew that contains too much water, or when the all-grain brew wort is lautering. The grain-to-water ratio has to be calculated exactly, in order to avoid excess tannins from being extracted.

If a brew is all-grain, the tannins are best extracted close to the end of the sparge and lautering process. It’s at this juncture when the pH can rise above 6.0. To counteract the pH rising, keep an eye on the pH of the mash. Maintain it at around 5.2 to 5.6 pH during the mashing, lautering, and brewing.

If this sounds very complicated, it’s because breweries are run by some of the most qualified and excellent brew masters in the world. They have in-depth knowledge on how to craft beer using science and instinct.

Commercial breweries, and a high percentage of craft breweries as well, rely on fully automatic brewery equipment. This is to ensure the beer recipe is created and produced according to the strict guidelines laid down by the brew master.

Asia & Europe

Turkey – Efes (Anadolu Group)

The country of Turkey occupies a unique geographical position. It lies between Asia and Europe, the eastern Mediterranean and the Middle East, and represents a blend of both cultures.

Turkey is an incredibly popular holiday destination (sixth most popular holiday destination in the world) for people all over the world, but especially from the Asian and European continents. They flock there for the clement weather, delicious cuisine, and friendly people. Turkey is the cradle of civilization and the centre of where beer culture originates.

Turkey’s most identifiable and world-renowned beer is Efes Pilsen. The manufacturers of this famous beer are world leaders in setting trends and the first to reach ground-breaking goals.

Interesting Facts About Anadolu Efes Pilsen Beer

Every visitor to Turkey knows how to pronounce “Efes” – it is Eff (how the letter “F” is pronounced) and Ess (how the letter “S” is pronounced) – so say Eff-Ess when you want to order one. But this is not the only interesting fact to know about Anadolu Efes Pilsen.

The name Efes was chosen by the beer’s national consumers. A competition was held and the inspiration for the winning name came from the ancient historical city of Ephesus, near the Ege Biracılık ve Malt Sanayii A.Ş. brewery in İzmir. Efes Pilsen won a gold medal in Paris at the Sélection Mondial in 1973, and has been winning international beer awards steadily ever since then.

Anadolu Efes Pilsen Taste and Flavour Profile

Efes is a European Pale Lager. It has an ABV of 5% and is produced all year round to satisfy its ever-increasing fan base. When the beer is expertly poured (an aggressive centre pour with abrupt taper off), it appears clean and clear in the glass with a thin, white head after settling. The colour is yellow with slight effervescence and a small amount of lacing occurring during drinking.

The aroma upon first inhalation is redolent of rich corn with a touch of sugar, and a welcome hint of lightly floral hops.

The taste and flavour of Efes has been described as slightly citrus, corn cake, polenta, and cream crackers. For the beer drinker who is expecting a fine Pilsener, and the identifying Pilsener qualities of crisp, clear appearance and taste, Efes does not disappoint.

It’s for these reasons – the consistent taste and aroma profile, light to moderate herby, floral, and earthy character, and light to medium body and carbonation – that you will find its green glass bottle and dark, royal blue label on tables all over the world as Efes sales continue to dominant Europe and Asia.

North America

The United States of America – Bud Light (Anheuser-Busch)

Light or “Lite” beers are slowly taking over in countries that tick these boxes:

  • People want cheap beer
  • Consumers are moving to beers with lower alcohol content
  • The market is saturated with advertising that influences the target demographic to choose lite beer

How Did Bud Light Become the Best Selling Beer in the United States?

Between the two largest beer companies in the U.S., (Anheuser Busch and Miller Coors) they control 71% of the beer market in that country. The truth is, if an alcohol and beverage distributor wants to stock a range of beer brands, they have to give the prominent shelf and fridge positions to these two beer suppliers, or they will lose their price profit margin.

So, when a customer is rushing into the store to buy a quick six pack, the first thing they will see is a display with either an Anheuser Busch or a Miller Coors product stacked on it, and the prices will be the cheapest in the store. It’s no wonder that only 11 brewers in total account for 90% of all beer sold in the United States.

The shopping patterns of beer buyers show that when consumers have to cater for a large crowd of drinkers, such as a party or barbecue, they pick lite beer over tasty craft beer every time. It saves them money, and provides their guests with a budget-friendly, light, refreshing brew that is not going to hit them over the head with the alcohol content. It’s for these reasons that Bud Light/Lite is the most popular beer in the States.

Key Facts About Bud Light

As are most of the favourite beers in hotter climates, Bud Light is an American Light Lager. It has an ABV of 4.2% and is brewed using a combination of rice and barley malts, and a blend of premium hops of different varieties. Some of the hops are grown in America and a percentage is imported from overseas.

This is because there has been a massive strain on American hop suppliers since the emergence of multiple craft breweries across the county. Part of the appeal of a craft beer is that it is brewed according to the traditions of yesteryear, and this means as few imported natural ingredients as possible.

The countrywide hop shortage is leading to the expansion and construction of craft breweries to slow down or stall completely. This is a sad consequence to the popularity of locality crafted beer. Hopefully, the issue will be resolved with more hop crops being grown or imported.

There are many commercial and craft brewery equipment fabricators who are able to supply the natural raw ingredients needed to make beer. Manufacturing outstanding brewery equipment is not the only talent many companies have. Being able to introduce high quality beer ingredient suppliers to breweries is a necessary subdivision of the beer making process.

What Do Bud Light Drinkers Have to Say About the Beer?

Beer drinkers enjoy Bud Light because of its consistency and generic taste that holds no surprises. You can safely grab one at a party or a barbecue with the knowledge that it will quench you thirst and satisfy your need for a normal beer taste.

It is recommended to serve Bud Light at an icy temperature, and then drink it before the condensation droplets have rolled to the bottom of the bottle. And Bud Light consumers are insistent that the bottled beer tastes better and more refreshing than the cans.

Bud light has a pale, yellow colour and pours with a large, foamy head that quickly dissipates into a medium head with sizeable bubbles. As far as lacing is concerned (the residue left by the beer head foam as you drink the beer), Bud Light has virtually no lacing.

The aroma of a Bud Light has been described by various drinkers as having notes of corn, waffle syrup, and sugar. There is minimal hop taste presence, and most Bud Light drinkers enjoy its innocuous beer flavour with the equivalent carbonation to a soda. When the bottle is completely drained, there might be a hint of sweet grain finish if you sniff the bottle opening deeply.

Bud Light consumers rave about its exceptional drinkability for people of all taste preferences.

Anheuser-Busch has an appealing “farm to bottle” step by step manufacturing process. From the sourcing of the ingredients, through to putting the cap on the bottle, Bud Light is monitored and subjected to rigorous quality control. This can be seen in the unvarying taste and colour in the billions of Bud Light bottles sold around the world and across the States every year.

Beer: Price, Taste, & Marketing is what decides which one you buy

End of Part 1

This is the first in our series about countries and the beers they love. It is fascinating to discover the reasons why certain beers grow to become the dominant product in the different countries. These favourite beer brands are so ingrained into the consciousness of the citizens of each place that even when the person moves to live in another country, they will still prefer the taste of the beers to which they were initially exposed. To them, it is the taste of home and one to which they will always identify.

However, craft beer production is growing at an almost exponential rate. Could it be that one day, the most popular beers around the world map will change over to craft beer?

What Equipment Do I Need In Beverage Production?

Introduction

Food and Beverage industry is one of the most popular industries that usually never go out of business and there is never a scarcity of choices in the market for beverages because it is a necessity and humans love and enjoy drinking them. It is, for this reason, every year some companies and brands join the beverage industry and come up with a new variety, taste, mixture of ingredients, and flavor for their customers. If you are planning to enter the industry and introduce your brand in the market, you must do your research thoroughly because it is extremely important. Many new entrants start by investing heavily in the equipment for the beverage production and this is where they often go wrong. Having your equipment has its advantage but often it comes up with fewer benefits and high costs. Even some basic equipment can cost you millions of dollars because the equipment produced is usually of high quality and is extremely specialized. Therefore, the equipment should be owned considering the type of beverage company you are operating and what stage you are currently at. If you are an already established and successful brand in the industry, and having the equipment is crucial for your business operations then in this article we will help you to find out what equipment is necessary to purchase.

Types of Bottling Equipment

In terms of bottling, you might need two types of equipment:

Semi- Automatic

For the companies that have just started their business and their target market is small, limited and only regional, semi- automatic equipment is ideal for them to purchase. This includes machines for capping and labeling, rinsing bottles, and filling. If you have less space for production then purchasing tabletop machinery may be a good idea. For a basic bottling line, you may need labelers, cappers, and tabletop fillers that could be run by one or more than one operator. You can create a packaging line for your product by having the filling system that is uni-framed. This kind of system includes an automatic machine that does the filling and you can add on other types of machinery to the frame as per your choice. Usually, the uni-frame machine systems in the beverage industry come up with capers, labelers, and bottle rinsing and cleaning machines. The best part about having semi-automatic bottling equipment is that you can simply and easily upgrade it in the future to the automatic equipment as per the needs of the changing market conditions and growth of the business.

Automatic

As the company grows, at one point or the other you would need to purchase automatic bottling equipment which would include a bottle cleaning machine that is completely automatic. These machines usually have a vacuum in them and they help to clean the bottles before the beverage is poured in them. They do this by inverting the bottle over a basin to remove debris and all kinds of pollutants to make sure the bottle is clean. The Health of the consumer is extremely important that is why it has to be cleaned properly to ensure it is safe to drink. These machines also use a special kind of nozzle to lose out the debris first and then the vacuum is used to suck out the waste particles. These automatic bottle cleaners use PLC that can simply be operated with a touch.

After cleaning the bottle the next step is to fill liquid in it. For this automatic filling machines can be purchased, for example, gravity fillers and overflow fillers. Overflow fillers are capable of handling the foaming that can occur in some specific drinks whereas gravity fillers are easy simple and time-based fillers that can help to fill up the bottle to a consistent level without any hassle. Automatic filling machines also use PLC like rinsing machines and are capable of handling different record times, delays and durations for some particular bottles.

Once the bottles are filled you need to seal them. For this, you can purchase automatic capping machines that can automatically do the sealing without any difficulty. To preserve the color, taste and to increase the shelf life of the beverage many companies use nitrogen pure systems before capping and sealing. The capping systems include cap delivery systems that constantly cap the bottles automatically when the bottles move to the packaging. Some popular capping machines in the beverage industry include ROPP caps, snap caps, spindle cappers, and chuck cappers.

The next step after capping is labeling. Many beverages that have wrap labels use automatic labeling machinery that is sensitive to the pressure. The type of the labeling done depends greatly on the kind of bottle being used and how the bottler wishes to label it. These machines also have a coding function to print out the batch number, expiry date, and other important information. Once the labeling is done the bottle is ready to be taken to the shelf and exposed to the customer.

Conclusion

The above-mentioned information helps us to learn about the important types and kinds of equipment that are required if you are an already established brand in the beverage industry. However, if you are a new entrant, buying the equipment may not be a good idea It is better and advisable to outsource the equipment because as mentioned above, the equipment is extremely costly and you can save this money for doing other important thing such as improving your product, doing market research, and learning about competitors. Outsourcing is cheaper and does not compromise on the quality of the equipment provided. This will also reduce the hassle of buying trucks, machines, and other pieces of equipment as the outsourcing companies will provide you everything for a fee that is easy to manage and is hassle-free. For a new entrant, outsourcing reduces the risk and the capital that is required to enter into the business so even if you do not sell much your investment in the business is limited to a minimum quantity.

What should I pay attention to when using beer brewing equipment?

Brewing beer at home is fun but you have to be careful with the beer brewing equipment though. For those who are beginners of the beer brewing process, they must be aware of some basic knowledge related to beer brewing. Basic knowledge includes different sanitization procedures for beer brewing equipment, boiling, cooling, fermentation, and finally bottling or kegging. Besides the basics, here are some of the important things that require your attention when using beer brewing equipment at home. Have a look:

1-Buy the right beer brewing equipment

Currently, there are so many beer brewing tools and supplies in the market which tends to make the buyer confuse for sure. There is some simple and instant equipment like just-add-water kits, but this type of beer brewing won’t taste good so you have got to pick the right equipment for your home brewery. Instead of ready to go tools, buy all grain beer brewing kit or a microbrewery because it is the real deal from https://yolongbrewtech.com/.

2-Buy the right size of beer brewing equipment

Your friends might say Go Big or Go Home but be smarter than that. It is not a competition. You only need the simple and right size equipment for beer brewing that you can handle all by yourself in your own home. While beer brewing, it tends to boil over, so you have to be careful of beer quantity in the kettle. Do not splurge it to the top and let it boil over. Use common sense and put only enough quantity that is not exceeded by your equipment’s capacity.

3-Ask an expert’s opinion before buying beer brewing equipment

Since there are so many home breweries in every town these days, make sure you get an expert opinion before buying the beer brewing equipment. You don’t have to buy the outdated versions but be sure to ask anyone who has made beer at home to get the best idea. There are plenty of experts you can find on the internet these days as well if you got no expert in your town.

Once you have made the beer, it is recommended that you can take it to the local brewer to get their opinion on its quality. Be ready to take some constructive criticism but it will help you in the long run.

4-Don’t over complicate the simple process

Beginners are always excited to make the beer at home so many of them try to complicate the simple process by adding new steps and sometimes new recipes. This is the main reason why so many beginners failed to make a good quality beer. Use the simple recipe and follow the exact guidelines. Once you are an expert in making one type of beer then go on experimenting with other recipes one by one.

5-Use fresh ingredients

It doesn’t matter what kind of beer brewing equipment you have when it comes to taste. Taste of beer can only be developed by using fresh ingredients. If your ingredients are a few days old in the fridge, try to use them quickly. Some experts say that if you want a better taste, try grinding malt grain by yourself and use wet yeast instead of dried yeast. It always works.

6-Don’t forget to sanitize the beer brewing equipment

Beer brewing cannot be complete if you don’t sanitize your beer brewing equipment. If you have just bought a new brewery kit then it is fine, you don’t have to go through the long sanitization procedure but if you are using used equipment, sanitize it thoroughly. If you don’t do the sanitization, your beer is going to get infected and whoever drinks it would be seriously sick. It is recommended to use non-bleach sanitization procedures because it won’t have any smell. Make sure your hands and place are also clean and sanitized.

7-Try the foil stovetop boil-overs

If you have cooked in the kitchen, you know how messy can boil overs be. You take off your sight for 1 minute and the whole milk is boiled over all stovetops and it takes a few hours to clean up, to say the least. Consider beer has the tendency to boil over, so it is better to take precautions in advance. Remove the burners on your stovetop and cover the whole area with aluminum foil. If kettle boils over, no worries, you can take off the whole aluminum foil and throw it away while your stovetops stay clean.

8-Use wort chillers

Mostly home brewers use ice to keep the wort chill. For that purpose, they keep the kettle in either bathtub or any other big tub like utensils. But it takes 40 minutes to 1 hour depending on your ice quality, which is enough time for bacteria to ruin your beer. Experts recommend using a wort chiller to reduce the likelihood of contamination. It can chill off your wort in almost 20 minutes. Plus, you don’t have to buy extra ice packs. The most commonly used chiller is coiled immersion chillers. They come in various sizes and about $50 – $70 range.

9-Use carboy handles along with beer brewing equipment

Surely, you want to save some money by using the functional equipment for beer brewing but add one more item in your list and that is carboy handles. Carboy handles don’t seem much, but they can be very handy especially when you are using larger glass carboys. With them, it is super easy to move carboys from kitchen counters to the beer rack in the next room. It will only take $6 per carboy.

10-Use a low off tube to airtight the seal

Although airlocks work fine if you have large beer buckets then using blow-off tubes would be ideal for you as you don’t have to get your hands dirty here. Learn to use them from time to time to keep the beer from rotting. There are different types of blow-off tubes so get an expert opinion about which one goes with your brewing equipment and then you are all set.
