10bbl cellar tanks

With the rapid growing of craft beer market, more and more microbreweries are facing brewery expansion situation. It’s a great and happy thing for microbrewery or brewpub owners, actually for brewery equipment suppliers, we have to pay more attention and works on all details. We need to take much into consideration.

I take a 10bbl brewing company expansion project that YoLong just finish as example. Hope this brewery expansion project can offer some suggestion or favor for brewery owners who are planning to upgrade their brewery or brewpub.

A. Spend As More Time and Patience On Communication

We received an inquiry from one client that would like to improve his lauter, increase four 10bbl fermenters, two brite beer tanks and some accessories in his brewing company at the beginning of October 2018. So we started the communication.

    • Increase one hops blocker in his kettle.
    • Custom fabricate one stainless steel mash paddle for his 5bbl mash tun.

    • Increase four 10bbl fermenters with
      • He has several 5bbl fermenters in his brewery now, in order to have the good looking for all fermenters after installation, we designed same level glycol inlet and outlet for new 10bbl fermenters and exsited 5bbl fermenters.
      • ladder support
      • Hose hooks

Project Communication Records

B. Strict Project Management

Till now, project manager has finished detailed communication with client and recorded all details. As well, strict project management is very important to make sure all changes can come true. Because draft men and workers have thinking inertia and work inertia. So all difference that marked by project manager should be attention and inspect by more persons (the project manager, the draftman, the production director, the inspector).

And all changes should be photoed and record as the extra documents with general inspection documents.

1. Jacket and Ports Inspection

2. Jacket Pressure Test With 7bar pressure

3. Ports and Welding Inspection

4. Surface Finish Inspection

5. Tank Pressure Test

C. Purchased parties quality inspection

Although some accessories are purchased, the manufacturer (YoLong) has the responsibility to protect the quality as well, because they will be one part of this project. We must make sure all work well standing clients points.

The client prefers to use rotary racking arm as he saw from other suppliers, it is easy to rack it. We tried to find and custom fabricated four rotary racking arm from a new supplier, but we can’t promise the quality. So we processed the pressure test after receiving rotary racking arm, 3 has leakage. And we returned them to supplier to change. After receiving, we processed pressure test again and there was still one rotary racking arm had leakage.

The client was very happy for our test again, as he said he will lose three or more tanks of beer if we don’t test the purchasing party. And he was happy to let YoLong change to general racking arms.

D. Packing & Shipment

In order to save container room, we designed the tanks be packed in stack. With communication with brewer of client, the forklift can’t go though the door (1.7m x 2.3m), so they have to use pallet jack. So we update the support for easier unloading.
